3. Chris Redfield

Whether it was as a fresh-faced S.T.A.R.S. operative in Resident Evil, a boulder-punching muscle man in Resident Evil 5, or the more mysterious figure we saw in Village, Chris Redfield has been a familiar and beloved face throughout the series' history.

Being one of the original player characters, playing as Chris was one of the foundations of the series which helped to define the core of the survival horror experience as we know it.

As the series went on, however, Chris would unfortunately become more of an unstoppable action hero who could mow down hordes of enemies with ease.

Chris's section in Village, for example, is an intense action set piece that throws wave after wave of Lycans at the player. While providing a cathartic power fantasy, this portion is a huge tonal departure from the horror of the first half.

Although he's increasingly becoming associated with the series' action tropes, seeing Chris appear in these games is like being reunited with an old friend. No matter what, he's always a welcome addition to any Resident Evil title.
