Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Ranking Every Boss From Easiest To Hardest
4. Genichiro Ashina (3rd Form) And Sword Saint
Genichiro pops up yet again for the 3rd and final time if you follow the Immortal Severance or Return endings, and this time he’s not alone.
Unsurprisingly, Genny himself is still a beast, as now as he’s got his own Mortal Blade, which he uses to devastating effects.
Well, if he can hit you with it that is, as you can just run behind him as he’s winding up and unleash hell into his back. In fact, it's probably the easiest of his fights, as by this point you’re likely to be much more powered up, and therefore countering his lunges and jumping and punishing his sweeps is easier than ever.
Yet, he’s just the starter, as the main course is Isshin, the Sword Saint, who can be a right tricky bastard to take down. In phase one he’s got a lot of quick moves and delayed attacks that, if they catch you, will wipe 75% of your health off easily. Phase two is even worse, as he now wields a long weapon alongside his sword and his attacks become whirlwinds of difficult-to-deflect and unblockable moves.
My best advice for this fight is take your time and bait the jumping strike, keep running as he’ll follow with another attack then circle back to hit his spectral butt. Phase three is the same but with lightning strikes which can stun you if you stand still. Again, if you’re feeling scared (and I don’t blame you), stick back and bait the lunge, or if you want to finish this quicker, jump towards the lighting and counter before you hit the ground to stun him.
Either way, it’s an outstanding fight that will truly push you to your limits, and it’s fitting seeing as this is the final boss in the game for many unless you went down a different path earlier.
