Shenmue 3: 10 Things It Must Do To Appeal To The Modern Gamer
1. Faster Paced Story
Even ardent Shenmue fans will have to admit that there are portions of the game that are just flat out boring. Having to wait around in the original game for a number of in-game hours for an event to happen, or that dreaded fourth disc in Shenmue 2 are both examples of times where Shenmue could easily lose the modern gamer.
While much of the narrative in Shenmue is based around patience and exploration, Yu Suzuki is going to have to compromise just a little bit to make sure that everything flows together smoothly and players aren't left hanging around, repeating tasks or trudging along to get to the next part of the game that they find exciting.
That isn't to say Shenmue 3 should be all action, all the time. However, making a modern gamer stack books at the start of every day simply isn't going to cut it and it would be a tragedy if players missed out on the greatness of Shenmue because they got bored by a less than stellar narrative flow.
