6. Silent Hill 4: The Room

In a very peculiar move Silent Hill 4 decided to include gameplay segments in a first person viewpoint when exploring the apartment complex housing the titular possessed room. It wasnt executed very well and thankfully didnt catch on but The Room is far from a bad egg in the franchise. Id actually wager from here on out in this list, each installment is a storytelling masterpiece. The games psychopathic child-murdering serial killer villain Walter Sullivan was actually referenced to in a newspaper found within Silent Hill 2. Hes on a murderous quest to kill 21 victims in an act of cleansing the apartment while players assume the role of Henry and must protect Eileen, the 21st victim at all costs. Narratively it follows a different structure than earlier iterations stemming from the fact that the game originally was not planned as a Silent Hill title until mid-production. The end results are an unforgettable experience with twisted villain motives. The game also ends with one of the greatest pieces of music to ever grace any medium, perfectly capturing the essence of the story in tone and lyrics.
