Sony's E3 Press Conference: 10 Key Details And Games That Stood Out
3. Watch Dogs
Watch Dogs is the first of the games I've listed that isn't a console exclusive, (it will be released for the Wii U, XBOX 360, XBOX One, and PS3 in addition to a PlayStation 4 released) but it still was an extremely impressive demo nonetheless.
In this third-person Sandbox action game, you take the role of Aiden Pearce, a hacker, former thug-turned-vigilante who has grown tired of the violence in his current location, a futuristic city of Chicago. Chicago has been radically altered by the advent of the Central Operating System (cTOS), an expansive electronic system at interlinks all aspects of electronic security, citizen profiles, civil services, and pretty much every electronic device in the city limits. Aiden can utilize his phone to hack the system, manipulating the events of various devices and machines in the environment that are linked to cTOS, as well as exploring the profiles of any individual he encounters.
Aiden's phone can effortlessly interact with virtually every citizen, and any electronic device, using cTOS.
In the demo showcased earlier, we saw Aiden trailing a suspect, listening in on his phone call as he was also monitoring police transmissions, learning that the cops were out looking for him. Undaunted, Aiden slips away in a sleek car, catching the attention of the police when he speeds into a tunnel. Without missing a beat, Aiden uses his phone to manipulate cTOS into opening an electronic gate a small distance ahead. Aiden slips inside, parking the car and closing the gate, as the unwary cop speeds by, telling his superiors that he's lost the Aiden.
The next portion of the demo showed Aiden hacking a security feed, manipulating elements in the environment to distract some armed pursuers, giving his friend commands to hide among the environment, stealthily navigating his way though the assailants (while carrying a stolen computer interface), until he and Aiden are finally able to meet. The end of the demo showed Aiden compromised by police - with a single use of his phone, Aiden caused a power outage, allowing him to assault the closest officer and escape unscathed.
The concept of being able to extensively manipulate Aiden's environment already makes for what should be a very interesting premise to a next-gen game. Even more, the combat elements of the game seemed easy and fluid, Aiden brandishing a pistol, a baton, and hand-to-hand combat easily.
As a launch title to be released on November 19th of this year, this is another title I'm looking forward to playing. (My wallet is going to take a serious beating this fall).
