Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. Can't Escape That "Glorified DLC" Feel

Yes the city, animations, swinging and characterisation is spot on, but storytelling, pacing, longterm combat possibilities and lack of variety in the endgame anchors this in "glorified DLC" territory.

That's not a damning statement - there's obviously plenty to love - but as the back half of the story felt increasingly sporadic, I couldn't shake that all these plot points and character beats would've been done so much better had Insomniac spread Miles Morales out over thrice the runtime.

As it stands, Miles' story only took 4-6 hours, and that's including most side missions. Suit unlocks, collectibles and random crimes can expand that, but the main thrust of the package - the story and Miles becoming Spider-Man - simply doesn't feel as weighty or perfected as 2018's release.

Again, no spoilers, but Miles Morales even ends on something that reiterates a plot point we already knew, inadvertently confirming that Miles' events were "on the side" or optional, and it's what comes next that matters more.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales absolutely shows off your PS5 and confirms that Insomniac are one of the finest developers working today. It just can't help but make you yearn for the next "proper" instalment.
