Spider-Man PS4: 10 Comic Storylines Insomniac Must Use
1. To Have And To Hold
Anyone who's anyone knows that Peter Parker is a bit of a hit with the ladies. Most have endured tragedy as a result, but still, Parker's had an awful lot of love interests.
Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson are of course his two most famous flames, but Peter's also held romantic attractions with Betty Brant, Felicia Hardy and more. There's only really one person who's been able to truly capture the wall-crawler's heart however, and that has to be Mary Jane.
Having hit the proverbial jackpot when Pete first met the archetypal 'girl next door', the two have dated, broken up, married and, well, we won't bother talking about that ret-con again. Regardless, she's Spidey's most iconic flame and one of Marvel's greatest supporting characters. If you're looking for a place to find that best represented, you could do a lot worse than looking at 'To Have and To Hold' - a one shot issue written by Matt Fraction in the immediate aftermath of Civil War.
Fraction is of course one of the industry's brightest talents, and his love letter to the Pete/MJ relationship is as wonderful and endearing as comics can get. Over the course of 30 pages, Fraction not only reiterates just how important their romance is to the identity of Spider-Man as a whole, it shouts their marriage loud and proud, unashamedly, in a manner that I can only imagine infuriated those with the notion that superheroes somehow can't get married. Of course they can. And if any couple were to best encapsulate the reasons why heroes should be able to tie the knot, it would be Spidey and MJ.
If Insomniac's Spider-Man really is a long way into his unconventional career, it would be absolutely wonderful if he and MJ were together. If they're looking for reasons why, then To Have and To Hold offers them in abundance.
