Star Wars Battlefront: 10 Crippling Issues That Must Be Fixed

8. Heroes Need Way More To Do

This takes me onto the Heroes you can play as (which in the beta, are a Return-styled Luke and standard Vader). Now, if you've played any of the Jedi Academy games or any first-person title that has a third-person mode for melee attacks (think Skyrim), you'll know just how glitchy and unnatural-looking this sort of thing can be. When it comes to the various frenetic confrontations in a typical Battlefront match, these should-be-epic showdowns boil down to two players spamming their attack buttons, before watching everything from server load to overlapping transitional animations get in the way. There is a 'lightsaber clash' move that can be triggered - leading to a button-mashing minigame to win - but for the most part playing as these heroes feels more like you're breaking the game and going on a mod-powered killing spree, over than cutting enemies down with any depth or fidelity to the controls. In addition to this, they don't feel like 'heroes' in regards to your side, more glorified power-ups. Point being, there's no gameplay mechanic to rally the troops or lead them into battle in defined units, something that especially on the Rebel side, would benefit hugely. If, when the AT-AT shields go down, whoever's controlling Luke could force a prompt that focusses fire on certain parts of their armour, it'd factor into the balancing side of things greatly - alongside giving whoever's playing him a real cause in the battle other than just "Kill everything that moves".
