Super Mario Kart may always be considered the best of the SNES' racing games, but F-Zero really deserves to be just as well appreciated - if for entirely different reasons. It's not quite as family-friendly or as fun as Mario Kart (nor is it as relentlessly addictive), but the futuristic Formula One clone is a delight all the same.

It's blisteringly quick, wonderfully trippy to watch thanks to its mock-3D visuals and it's also difficult on a level that Mario Kart couldn't even manage if it was just a collection of various different Rainbow Roads. Mastering the game demanded memorising routes and near endless practicing, and while the learning curve was steep, it was hugely rewarding once you got the knack of it.
