Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Review

The moment-to-moment gameplay is so tight that it feels like the title has a vice grip on your dopamine center, with each character having distinct ground, aerial, special, and even sliding attacks making sure that each feels unique. Not only this, but through battling, completing side quests, and engaging in specific level challenges like not being hit by hazards more than three times or throwing enemies into boxes, you can level up each hero to unlock new special moves that slot into your arsenal so smoothly you'll begin to wonder how you did without them.

For example, a backflip special move can be obtained meaning that as you dodge away from enemies you can still attack and keep that combo chain spiraling higher.

Oh yeah, this game has a dodge button.

I know that sounds extremely minor on paper, but remember this is a video game genre that usually asks you to take your lumps, and just hope you can jump out of the way of most enemy attacks. Yet, here in Shredder's Revenge, you not only have the ability to back away from enemy clusters but also have access to a double jump to buy yourself time in the air if an enemy is charging across the screen or the field becomes littered with hazards.

This combines to give what many usually consider a shallow button-mashing experience a whole lot of depth, and when coupled with the increased movement speed of your heroes means that this is a lightning-quick and liquid-smooth adrenaline rush.

And this only gets even more chaotic and over the top when you add in the fact that up to six players can join up together to take on Krang and company. Through testing online features we experienced precisely zero connection issues (played on PC) and inviting friends to groups was quick and clearly laid out, meaning that online smash-fests are definitely up to scratch.
