Telltale's Guardians Of The Galaxy Episode 1 Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

4. The Big "Choice" Has Almost No Impact

The episode's second half faces the player with a choice, yet as tends to be the case with Telltale games, the choice is unfortunately more a thinly-veiled illusion than a distinct narrative branch.

Anyone who bothers to play through this episode twice will find that there's only one or two scenes that really differ much at all between the two choices, with the locations, characters and basic narrative beats ending up mostly the same.

It's not a new trick for the developer, of course, but it's still irritating that they continue to proffer the notion of choice when there's really very little consequence. One can argue that the choice at least matters while you're making it, but is that really enough?

Here the effort to disguise the laziness is minimal at best, which again given the lack of ties to any other established continuity, is especially disappointing.
