The Avengers Project: 10 Things It Must Include
6. Separate From The Movies...
Movie tie ins suck. They just suck. Sure, there’s been the odd exception down the years, but all in all... they suck.
Besides, what movie would they even be based on? The first Avengers movie is already six years old and the game’s nowhere to be seen. Avengers 4 will be out before the game, and there’s already rumours swirling that some characters will meet a tragic demise.
More people watch the Marvel movies than read the Marvel comics, so it’s likely Downey, Johansson et al will be the basis of the game (though at their pay scale, probably won’t lend their voice or image). Still though, the game can not be confined by Joss Whedon’s two hour plot if it’s to be any sort of a success.
That’s often why movie tie ins fall short. They’re restricted by a story that’s already been told; a narrative designed to be watched and enjoyed, not interacted with. Superhero movies lend themselves to interaction more than others - nobody’s clamouring for A Quiet Place: The Game - but simply not enough happened in the movie for it to be long lasting fun.
