The Avengers Project: 10 Things It Must Include
5. ...But Connected To The MGU
Long lasting doesn’t necessarily mean it needs an engrossing, 40 hour story like Red Dead Redemption 2. The PS4 Spider-Man’s story is ‘only’ around 16 hours, but playthrough takes much longer if you want to fully enjoy being Spidey. If an Avengers game is done right, it should give you the same feeling, and maybe with more characters to work with - and with being in development for so long - it’s runtime could exceed our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.
Run-time aside though, there should be links to Spider-Man within the game. He wouldn’t need to be playable. In fact, given that he’s just had a game that’s likely to get a sequel, probably shouldn’t be. But with references to Stark Tower and Black Panther in Spidey, Square Enix’s Avengers game should follow suit and be part of the same living, breathing universe.
Spider-Man’s Creative Director Brian Intihar described the game as a jumping off point for an MGU: Marvel Gaming Universe. Given the success of the movies, it seems inevitable. Stronger than the sum of their parts and all that. A series of interconnected games of Marvel’s scale would be new ground, but would also be a sure-fire hit.
