The Game Awards 2018: 7 Ups & 6 Downs

4. No Metroid Prime 4, No Avengers Project & No Death Stranding

There was a disappointing lack of megaton reveals at this year's ceremony, as best exemplified by the disheartening no-shows of three of the most anticipated upcoming video games.

Metroid Prime 4 was hotly rumoured to close the show out, but alas, it came and went without a peep, while Square Enix's long-gestating Avengers game missed yet another major industry event.

And then there's Death Stranding. While we have seen a fair amount of footage from Hideo Kojima's enigmatic actioner over the years, it's pretty much expected at this point that Keighley can convince his pal Kojima to show something at every single Game Awards.

Even though it was circulated a day before the show that Kojima wouldn't be attending, that didn't stop fans assuming he'd have a new Death Stranding trailer, but sadly, there was nothing.

Though the night did serve up some fun reveals - namely Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled and Mortal Kombat 11 - the lack of Earth-shattering shockers was a bit deflating.
