The Game Awards 2018: 9 Rumours & Leaks That Must Happen
3. Nintendo Shows Off New AAA Exclusive
Following the Nintendo Switch's absurdly strong launch year in which Breath Of The Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Splatoon 2 came out, 2018 has been a somewhat quiet year for the Big N (at least, until Smash comes out). In addition, it's unclear what's on the immediate horizon for the console outside of Yoshi and that non-descript Pokémon core RPG.
To pique the interests of those who haven't hopped on board the Switch bandwagon, it'd be hugely beneficial for them to unveil some major project that stirs up more hype for the system's future. It could be the first look at a new AAA project they're working on. Maybe even a peek at that Pokémon game, or even Metroid 4? Something that stirs up the player base to bring Nintendo back into the conversation again.
Sure, Super Smash Bros. comes out the day after the Awards, so Nintendo will already have the hype train going. However, having another big announcement or teaser could stir the gaming community into a frenzy, ensuring that no electronics store will be able to keep a Nintendo Switch in stock for the foreseeable future.
