The Last Of Us: 5 Scenes That Must Be In The Movie
1. That Ending
People were upset about the linear nature of the ending, given the severity of Joel’s actions. I loved it, because it would feel uncharacteristic of Joel to give up the one light at the end of his tunnel just for a chance that they may be able to develop a vaccine. I won’t start justifying his actions, because there are so many arguments (and to be fair, they were made two years ago), but the most important scene that shouldn't be altered is the ending.
First of all, the ending got people talking, which is never a bad thing, so if you want to make the film as memorable as possible for people who haven’t yet experienced the story, then add that in. Having Ellie die and Joel walk away empty-handed to try and preserve what’s left of mankind wouldn’t have as much of a resounding impact on the audience.
And secondly, if there ever is a sequel to ‘The Last of Us’, and I sincerely hope there is, then it serves the screenwriters to follow the same suit as the video game, so they’ll be able to develop a sequel to the film as well at some stage down the line if it’s a success.
Keep in mind that it’s still really early days. I don’t expect the movie to be finished until 2017, but considering the amount of work that went into the game, it’s never a bad thing to have more time to work on delivering the best quality film. For the sake of the franchise, I really hope it does go well, but until then, I hope Naughty Dog takes notice and stays true to the moments that made this game such an emotional roller coaster to play from start to finish.
