Though we've obviously known that The Last of Us 2 is a sequel set after the events of the first game, until now we had no idea just how much of a gap there was going to be between the stories of the two games. Ellie had obviously been aged up, but there were some theories swirling that the reason we hadn't seen Joel was because he was too old, or that something had happened to him in the intervening years.

The official description for the latest trailer confirms that the game is set five years after the previous instalment. That's reflected in the new footage as well, which doesn't only mark the passage of time through the ageing of the characters, but by how the world has changed. Tommy's settlement, for instance, looks to be a thriving, small slice of stability in an otherwise chaotic world.

It's clear Joel and Ellie have been living in harmony for a while now, and all of that is about to be disrupted.
