5. The Insane Gore Effects

Now this is a small one, but a cool detail nonetheless. The original Last of Us was particularly brutal when it came to combat, with heads exploding to match the force of a shotgun blast and blood smeared everywhere following a hand-to-hand encounter.

Unsurprisingly, Part 2 is putting Naughty Dog's cutting-edge graphical tech to good use, and will be giving players brutal effects to match the tone of this apocalyptic nightmare. Combat is fleeting in the trailer, but at one point you can clearly see Ellie shoot someone in the face, and not only do they drop dead, but you can see little chunks of their face come flying off.

Combine this with a greater emphasis on intense, visceral close-quarters combat, and The Last of Us 2 looks as ugly as it is beautiful.
