The Witcher 4 Wishlist: 10 Things Fans Demand
5. Meaningful Weapons, Not Just Swords
Swords are well and good, but axes, halberds and bows are criminally neglected in the Witcher games. A new instalment will only benefit from a broader choice of weapons.
Sure, all three games did have weapons other than swords – but did anyone ever use any of them? Pick up an axe or a mace, and the nimble, lightning-fast Geralt suddenly turns into a sluggish stumper. Every hit drains half your stamina and comes too slow to connect with anything faster than a milepost.
The Witcher books have quite a few examples of Geralt grabbing a random piece of iron or wood and proceeding to whack the bad guys into pulp. In fact, the very first combat scene, the one featured in the opening cinematic to the first game, doesn’t even show him drawing his sword until the very end!
In fact, why would you go monster hunting with a sword in the first place? Wouldn't it be safer to poke a fiend with a silver spear, and easier to crumble a golem with an enchanted hammer? The witcher's arsenal calls for more variety and logic.
