There are a limited number of new game series' over the last 10 years that can boast true greatness. The pedigree of Nintendo's greats have spanned decades with puzzle, platforming and adventure titles have been present almost since the medium's conception, yet as video games continue to grow as a pass time, the potential for true innovation shrinks with every new release.

Uncharted is, at surface level, a somewhat formulaic third-person action series with a simple approach to combat propped up by the liberal use of lovable characters. The former is an annoyance to those who have seen third-person gunplay evolve overtime only for Uncharted to remain stubbornly stiff. The latter, however, is the series' most enticing factor, as the unlikely band of treasure hunters put even Indiana Jones to shame with their unrelenting charm.

Though the characters have always been the true driving force of the franchise, Uncharted’s jaw-dropping environments have also never disappointed. From towering temples to sparse deserts, the quest for the next lost city has taken Nate to all corners of the earth, with a healthy dose of destruction and deception along the way. Every town, city or island Nate and Co rummage through is always left in a decidedly worse state than it was before their often calamitous entry as Nate, Sully and Elena firmly plant their footprints on every location they visit.
