TYOA: 8 Great Video Games RUINED By Their Final Level
1. Rena - Tales of Arise
No matter the many things that may divide us as people, we can all agree that Tales of Arise's final dungeon is a steaming pile of hot garbage beyond compare.
Tales of Arise is generally accepted to be a brilliant game, even winning Best RPG at The Game Awards 2021, but it's frankly surprising it still collected that accolade after forcing players through the shudder-inducing dungeon that is Rena.
For one, it can take more than three hours to fight through, and on top of this it's visually muddy and lacks much aesthetic variation for most of that time, all while hurling recycled HP-sponge enemies at you ad nauseum.
RPGs are often criticised for unnecessarily padding things out with needlessly repetitious dungeons, and there are few worse examples than this, ensuring that an otherwise terrific game closes out with a stamina-sappingly tedious final endurance trial.
Just try and find someone that will defend Rena. We'll wait.
