8 Video Games That RUINED Great Characters

4. The Prince - Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

The Prince from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a pretty classic video game protagonist - initially arrogant and naive, but over the course of the game he evolves into a more likeable, capable character who fans were eager to reunite with in a sequel.

But in follow-up Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Ubisoft decided to basically give the Prince a personality transplant.

Now he's a fully selfish a**hole who doesn't have much time for anyone not called The Prince, as reflects the game's generally cynical, grimdark, edgier-than-edgy vibe. It was the mid-2000s, after all.

This version of the Prince was such a far cry from his depiction in The Sands of Time that it basically felt like an entirely different character.

The backlash was vocal enough that Ubisoft then spent the entire next game in the series, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, effectively walking it all back as the Prince reconciled the two disparate "sides" of his personality.
