Ups & Downs From Star Trek: Voyager - Across The Unknown

10. Up: Wealth of Characters

One thing that absolutely shows the developers have a handle on Voyager is their inclusion of many familiar faces within the franchise, and specifically, this series. B'Elanna's rise to Chief Engineer might be blink-and-miss quick within the framework of Across the Unknown, but Lt Carey isn't forgotten, and neither is the delightful Seska.

These characters can also be levelled up as play progresses, meaning that they become more capable and experienced when tackling away missions and attending to stations around the ship. Each has their own set of abilities which can be utilised individually or combined for a better chance of success when selected for an away team. Choose wisely here because a good mix of abilities can be crucial in successfully navigating the next planet.

The main crew is assembled right away, but if you're hoping for Seven of Nine, there's a bit of a wait since the game accurately brings about her introduction when players reach that point in the series timeline. If they survive and keep morale up, the ship will be almost one piece.

Even in early playthroughs, fans will face the Kazon and Maje Culluh, to name but a few. With the nature of the game, it does become a choice whether or not to fully engage with every antagonist and minisode or stick to the route home. In fact, on occasions, the crew might even suggest getting a move on if the ship has been in one system or sector for too long

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
