Visceral’s Star Wars Han Solo Game: 9 Things You Need To Know

A game built on a Han Solo vs. Boba Fett rivalry? Hell yes.

Ask anyone in the street who their favourite Star Wars character is, and they're probably going to say Han Solo. The loveable if not rather scruffy-looking smuggler who captured many a fan's heart has proved to be one of the most endearing aspects of the pop-culture phenomenon, so with that in mind it becomes apparent just how strange it is that he hasn't had a Star Wars game of his own. Sure, the Rebel hero has appeared as a playable role in certain titles and even as a supporting character in others, but the fact he has yet to experience a release dedicated entirely to his sarcastic and pragmatic personality is something of an anomaly. Well, enter Visceral Games, who have worked on pretty much everything from James Bond to the critically-acclaimed Dead Space series. Since LucasArts was dissolved in 2013, EA announced that they were in fact hard at work on a Star Wars title of their own, overseen by Uncharted alumni Amy Hennig. Afterwards we saw some rather insignificant bits of information tossed about, but in recent months the people behind Visceral have been dropping some very important breadcrumbs - all pointing towards our favourite scoundrel finally getting the video game treatment. With such talent and quality being channelled into the first of what we hope are many single-player titles centred around a galaxy far, far away, the little of what we know so far is more than enough to get very excited.

9. It's Rumoured To Have An Open World

Like the regrettably cancelled 1313 before it, Visceral's Star Wars project is rumoured to take place within a massive open-world, at least if we are to believe a recent job-listing posted by the studio's publisher, EA. The vacancy advertises a role for someone to bring their "love of Star Wars to Visceral Games," going on to detail the position's relation to development on "hero control/mechanics, AI behaviors, combat/weapons, class design, skills/progression, enemy design, story and boss encounters," among other things. This at least confirms that the title will bare some resemblance to an RPG of sorts, and when taken into account with previous rumours suggesting that the studio is working with the cancelled 1313's assets - itself an open-world production - it only seems natural to assume that the upcoming game will feature one as well.
