Warhammer 40K: Which Chaos Faction Should You Pick?

2. Word Bearers XVII Legion

The first heretics of the Imperium. They led the nine Legions on their path of damnation.

Upon the destruction of their shining beacon city, Monarchia, on the orders of the Emperor during the Great Crusade. The Word Bearer’s as a Legion had a crisis of Faith.

Desperate for the Truth of the Galaxy, Lorgar peered too deep into the madness of the Warp and the Dark Gods looked back.

From that moment on, they knew the Truth. Praise the Dark Gods!

Positives of playstyle

The Word Bearer’s and their close ties to the Warp reflect in their tabletop presence. They can buff Daemonic allies better than any other Legion. One Command Point for “Revered Hosts” stratagem increases the damage characteristic of a Possessed Unit by one.

As the most pious Legion, they also have access to the best Dark Apostle’s in the game.

The Word Bearers have some excellent Warlord Traits to increase the survivability of your warlord, for example Sacrilegious Regeneration adds one to their wound characteristic and provides them with a D3 wound regeneration every turn!

Negatives of playstyle

They are so thematically well designed that to try and play any other style with them would be sub optimal, so the is little variety to enjoy.

This faction birthed the most hated character in all of the Warhammer 40,000 Universe, Erebus… Yet he doesn’t have a model to represent him in Warhammer 40,000.

Their Legion Trait is plain awful. They re-roll morale tests.
