Watch Dogs 2 Review: 7 Ups & 6 Downs
6. Mission Variety Is Surprisingly Decent
One of the big problems with the first game is the lack of mission variety, which made it quickly feel stale and, honestly, a bit of a slog to finish.
Thankfully this time, the silly tone allows the game to throw more outrageous and varied missions at the player, including stealing an iconic car used in a movie, and sneaking into a Google-esque campus.
The missions are mostly PR stunts to increase your follower count, and while there are still a lot of "sneak into a fortress" missions, it's not nearly as arduous as in the first game, with combat feeling a lot less necessary for most battles.
The first game often felt like a copy-paste of Assassins Creed mission types, and while Watch Dogs 2 isn't completely free from that, it does a good job spicing things up. Also, the side missions are actually surprisingly decent and don't just feel tacked on, even if only completionists will probably end up finishing them all.
Plus, the player has so many ridiculous toys this time around to help you create your own emergent moments that make missions feel special and distinct.
