4. Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels
Singles Match (Wrestlemania 21, 2005)
What Happened? After performing in two great singles matches at Wrestlemanias 19 and 20 (against Brock Lesnar and Eddie Guerrero, respectively), Kurt Angle, perhaps best known for winning a gold medal in wrestling at the 1996 Olympics with a broken neck, began a feud with Shawn Michaels, attacking the Heartbreak Kid after being eliminated from the annual Royal Rumble match by him. This prompted Michaels to challenge Angle to a match at Wrestlemania, resulting in the two mocking one another and interfering in each other's bouts for several weeks until the day of the event. In twenty seven and a half minutes, the two put on an excellent technical display in the ring, with momentum switching back and forth between the two in the early stages. The former Olympic medallist would eventually prevail, however, reversing Michael's Sweet Chin Music superkick into his trade trademark ankle lock and forcing him to submit, despite being hit with a low blow and laid out on the announce table during the course of the match.
Why Won't We See It? Because of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). In 2006, Kurt Angle was granted an early release from his WWE contract after requesting and being refused time off to recuperate from accumulated injuries, though he signed with and begun wrestling full time for TNA only shortly afterwards. He has since made several outspoken comments about his former employer, and was alleged to have been one of the individuals involved in the Signature Pharmacy scandal, which involved the distribution of performance enhancing drugs to a significant number of wrestlers. It remains to be seen whether or not Kurt will ever be seen in a WWE ring again, and whilst he continues to collect paycheques from the company's competitor (although he is presently inactive and attending rehab), it's almost certain that he won't be seen in a WWE game either.
