WWE 2K19 Ratings: 10 Superstar Ratings That Make No Sense
6. Johnny Gargano
Rating: 80
Why It Makes No Sense: It’s time we start reflecting on whether or not NXT chants are prophetic, as “Johnny Failure” is certainly becoming a reality.
When WWE 2K18 was released, Gargano had just been stabbed in the back by Tommaso Ciampa, ending the glorious two-year long run of D.I.Y. After putting on numerous match of the year candidates alongside Ciampa against the likes of The Revival & AOP, it was time for both superstars to go their separate ways and begin long and prosperous singles career. Gargano was given an 81, while Ciampa was given a 79. That’s fair, as both superstars were yet to flourish as singles superstars.
Fast-forward to August 2018, and Gargano is praised as one of, if not the, best wrestlers in the world. He broke ground for NXT in his classic 5 star match against Andrade 'Cien' Almas, and had the greatest feud in NXT history against Tommaso Ciampa. Add this to the pile of match of the year candidates he’s had since then, and you’d expect his rating to skyrocket.
He was given an 80, one full point lower than last year.
Whaaaaat? There’s not much to say about this, except that it defies all logic. Gargano has proved that he can hang with the best of the best, and his rating should justify his sudden rise to main-event status. A rating similar to NXT graduates Shinsuke Nakamura (87) or Finn Bálor (85) would do justice to this.
