WWE 2K25 Review: 11 Ups & 3 Downs

3. Massive MyGM Improvements

For full disclosure, this writer has found MyGM to be utterly dull since it was brought back for WWE 2K22. This was a game mode, like MyFaction, that I just completely ignored unless I was playing through it for a review such as this. And that was my expectation with WWE 2K25 - spend a few hours on MyGM, see what's what, shrug my shoulders, and never open the game mode again - but man, have I been pleasantly surprised!

MyGM now feels like more than just a collection of numbers and extremely restricted gameplay. Sure, the numbers are still there - after all, the core purpose of the mode is to outdraw your opposition in dollars and ratings - but this feels like night and day when compared to last year's MyGM.

All of the General Managers of WWE 2K24, bar Ted DiBiase, are once again selectable as your avatar, and the game has nicely added Nick Aldis, Ava, Sensational Sherri, Miss Elizabeth, Armando Estrada, Mr. Fuji, and CM Punk as other options. And much like those GM options have been fleshed out, so too has the mode as a whole.

There are way more match types to choose from - some of which need to be unlocked - which means you don't feel backed into a corner to book the same matches time and time again. The challenge-and-reward system, period, just feels so more clear-cut and accessible here as well, as you look to constantly get one up on your competition.

Speaking of competition, a first run-through of MyGM saw Mick Foley's ECW completely kick my ass, but even that didn't take away from what a fun experience MyGM now is. Seriously, if you were one of those like me who had zero time for MyGM in the past, don't be sleeping on this mode in WWE 2K25.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main day job, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks/Saints, Jamie Hayter, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg. Where his beloved Wrexham AFC is concerned, Andrew is co-host of the Fearless in Devotion podcast, which won the Club Podcast of the Year gong at the 2024 FSA Awards.
