Xbox/Bethesda Acquisition: 8 Predictions For What Comes Next
7. Possible Obsidian/Bethesda Reconciliation
With Microsoft as mediator (not to say Boss, insofar as they could just command them to do so if they decided), that great long desired dream of Fallout fans for Obsidian to develop a sequel to New Vegas is, at least on the face of it, plausible now.
Considering the base cash dollar value of the Fallout IP, it isn't ridiculous to think that Microsoft would be keen to develop more titles than the current average of four years between main series entries. And New Vegas 2 would certainly have more instant fan appeal than some random title.
Though an Obsidian-developed New Vegas 2 might just seem a ridiculous fan theory, the acquisition does mean that 1. Microsoft owns the Fallout licence, 2. They own and have been using Obsidian (they certainly seem to be one of the more active studios owned by the company), and 3. Any reluctance on either the Obsidian or Bethesda sides due to the 'Metacritic Bonus' debacle can be smoothed over if Microsoft plays the middle-man.
