10 Horror Franchises Set For A Huge 2024

3. Friday The 13th

Chucky TV
Paramount Pictures

With the legal battle between original Friday the 13th director Sean S. Cunningham and writer Victor Miller now behind us, horror fans have the prospect of fresh Friday the 13th content for the first time since Marcus Nispel's 2009 reboot.

Of course, in that time we've had a couple of fun fan films, and Illfonic and Gun Media's excellent Friday the 13th video game, but we now finally have new F13 projects in the works for both the big and small screen.

Aiming to premiere before the end of 2024, A24 and Hannibal's Bryan Fuller are developing a Friday the 13th TV series titled Crystal Lake. Promising to featured "many familiar manifestations of Jason", this show already has Adrienne King - the actress behind Alice Hardy, the original picture's survivor who was offed in the opening of Friday the 13th Part 2 - cast in an unspecified role, with Victor Miller on board as an executive producer.

In terms of the silver screen, Sean S. Cunningham is currently exploring options to craft a new Friday the 13th film which would serve as a direct sequel to his 1980 original.

Either way, having been starved of new Friday the 13th output for 15 years, things are looking extremely positive for franchise fans here in 2024.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
