10 Horror Franchises Where Every Movie Is Good

These horror franchises haven't screwed up yet.

The nature of the horror genre means that when an original movie hits, there's a good chance it's going to get at least a few sequels, and honestly, why the hell not?

But of course, it's tricky for even the most talented creatives to avoid the law of diminishing returns, to keep delivering new installments which feel fresh and inventive enough to not feel like mere retreads of what came before.

And so, the overwhelming majority of horror franchises - even really, really good ones - usually end up falling off at some point, where there's at least one dud sequel that most of the fanbase prefers to not even talk about.

But there are exceptions - those precious few horror franchises where every single entry is in the very least decent

Each of these 10 horror franchises deserves credit for clearly putting the effort in every single time, even if they were far from perfect.

It'll certainly be interesting to see if these horror series can all maintain their laudable consistency moving forward, but at least for now they've served up solid quality every single time...

10. Evil Dead

Though the Evil Dead franchise has released only five movies over the span of almost 45 years, each of them has been in the very least very good, and absolutely brought something fresh to the table.

The original is of course the best-known - but actually not the first - "cabin in the woods" horror movie, while Evil Dead II is a gloriously over-the-top reimagining of that setup, with Sam Raimi pulling out every deranged, slapstick-infused trick in the book.

Army of Darkness again switches things up with its delirious, time-traveling, dark fantasy setup that barely feels like horror at all, before Fede Álvarez served up a gritty, nauseatingly gory remake in 2013, and most recently Evil Dead Rise shifted the setting again to a confined apartment building.

Considering that Evil Dead has passed through the hands of three filmmakers across so few movies, it's impressive that the quality has remained so high, and there's every possibility they'll pull it off again with the impending Evil Dead Burn, to be directed by Sébastien Vaniček (Infected).
