10 Horror Movie Characters Who Didn't Know They Were The Monster

To this day, Jaws is still one of the most intense horror movies of all time. It has aged incredibly well over the last 50-plus years, something largely down to exactly how the shark was utilised. It was the fear of the creature rather than the creature itself that Steven Spielberg played off.

Part of this came down to the sheer aspect of the unknown. The people of Amity Island didn't know if the shark had left their waters or when/if it would strike again, and it was a fear that crippled the town, in particular Chief Brody (Roy Scheider).

With most other killers, there is a reason for what they are doing, whether it's revenge, some sick obsession, or even just the sheer fun of it. Jaws had none of these, because there was no motivation outside of the shark innocently obeying its own natural instinct.

The deaths didn't come out of malice, but more because the shark was literally just hungry. In its own mind, it did nothing wrong, in the same way a lion would have felt no remorse in hunting and eating a gazelle. It was simply nature, and that played a big part in why it was so damn scary.
