10 Horror Movie Final Girls Who Actually Weren't

James Gunn-penned The Belko Experiment does a masterful job of sidestepping audience expectations, by making viewers firmly believe that the final girl is going to be Belko's new employee Dany Wilkins (Melonie Diaz).

Given that it's Dany's first day on the job, she serves as a perfect audience surrogate and someone they can easily root for, especially as she's not remotely prepared for the Battle Royale-in-an-office situation that soon enough unfolds.

All the same, Dany smartly manages to avoid unnecessary conflict while proving herself capable of fighting back when needed, all of this suggesting she'll probably end up coming out on top. Dany makes it oh-so-close to the end, but alas, she's suddenly shot in the head by Belko COO Barry (Tony Goldwyn) when she exits an elevator barely five minutes before the end credits roll.

There's ultimately no final girl in The Belko Experiment, with the sole survivor instead being a male employee, Mike (John Gallagher Jr.), who while likeable enough in his own right, didn't feel quite as fleshed out as Dany.
