10 Horror Movie Plot Twists EVERYONE Guessed

4. Hide And Seek - The Split Personality

The Visit
20th Century Studios

Hide and Seek is a mostly underwhelming attempt at a psychological horror film that, despite flashy production values and a strong performance from Dakota Fanning, falls apart thanks to its badly-executed story - most notably, it's a plot twist that's both astoundingly stupid and completely predictable.

The film centres around David and Emily (Robert De Niro and Dakota Fanning respectively), a father and daughter who move to a quiet rural community after the suicide of Allison (Amy Irving), David's wife. Things soon take a sinister turn, with strange things happening in the house; Emily blames these occurrences on her imaginary friend, Charlie.

It eventually turns out that Charlie is actually David's split personality, and this is a twist that many likely guessed before they even watched the film - the split personality twist is such a common trope in psychological thrillers. Hide and Seek does do its best to throw audiences off the scent by showing David doing other things while Emily was upstairs with her imaginary friend, but this didn't seem to throw many people off the scent.

Essentially, Hide and Seek tried to trick viewers by making it seem as unlikely as possible that David was Emily's imaginary friend... and then proceeded to follow through with that twist even though it no longer made any sense. Not very smart. At all.
