10 Horror Movie Plot Twists EVERYONE Guessed

3. Secret Window - Shooter Is A Figment Of Mort's Imagination

The Visit
Columbia Pictures

The next three entries could be called the holy trinity of predictable horror movie plot twists - there aren't many who didn't see this "rug pulls" coming from miles away. First up, there's Secret Window, a wildly uneven psychological thriller based on a novella by Stephen King.

Now over twenty years old, this one probably would've been forgotten outright had it not become a poster-child for predictable plot twists. It has lived on the public consciousness, but not in a good way.

The set-up of Secret Window is as follows: Mort (Johnny Depp) is a depressed, troubled writer living in an isolated cabin. There's another character (John Turturro) with a strange name - John Shooter, how subtle - who only shows up when Mort is alone. Yeah, pretty much everything about this screamed out that Shooter isn't real, and that Mort is suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder.

The split identity twist is so overused that in all honesty, some might've predicted this twist just from reading the plot description. This is a hard type of twist to pull off in an unpredictable way even at the best of the times but even so, few have pulled it off as badly as this movie did.
