10 Horror Movie Sequels You Probably Didn't Know Existed
5. Beware! The Blob
In the modern day, sequels coming decades after the previous movie is not exactly unheard of. Hell, Top Gun: Maverick, the consensus best legacy sequel so far, came 36 years after the original. That said, while ten-plus years between films is more common than ever today, it wasn't unheard of in the '70s.
No, nostalgia wasn't exploited quite like it is today. However, 1972 did see a sequel 14 years in the making, an eternity at the time, for 1958's The Blob.
The original Steve McQueen-led flick ended with the question mark after the caption declaring the end, but it wasn't followed up on until 14 years later. While the '70s saw both imitations of classic horror films as well as the birth of some of the most iconic franchises the genre has to offer, Beware! The Blob was a rare sequel that simply didn't make the same impact as the original.
In fairness, it was never going to, falling into the trap of a seemingly forced story with no returning characters from before. The IP has continued since, with one remake in 1988 and another set to come in the future, but it feels as though whatever happens, Beware! The Blob will remain in obscurity.
