10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2025
9. Heart Eyes
Heart Eyes is another movie that seemingly had everything it needed to at least be a modest hit.
With its uniquely Valentine's Day-themed slasher premise, this seemed to offer a perfect counter-programming alternative to the usual saccharine rom-coms released mid-February. And on top of this, Josh Ruben's film also released to positive reviews from critics alongside a pretty-good "B-" CinemaScore from audiences.
Ultimately, Heart Eyes failed to gross even double its lean $18 million budget, topping out at just $33.1 million globally.
This was said to be a result of the film underperforming with couples, with only 40% of opening weekend audiences attending a screening with a partner. It didn't help that Heart Eyes tanked overseas, too, making over 90% of its box office revenue in the U.S., and some also suggested that the marketing failed to sufficiently convey the movie's genre-bending tone.
The silver lining, however, is that Heart Eyes has a good chance of becoming a cult hit on streaming, even as a mainstay that horror fans will revisit every single February 14th.
