10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2025
8. Opus
A24 certainly knows how to sell and release a commercially successful horror film, and it was easy to be intrigued by Opus, a compellingly premised horror-thriller starring The Bear's Ayo Edebiri and boasting a killer ensemble cast including John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder, and Tony Hale.
Even with a tiny $10 million budget, though, Opus was a catastrophic flop, grossing a pitiful $2.2 million globally.
While projected to gross up to $4 million in its opening weekend, Opus ended up making just $1 million, leaving it sat outside the top 10 before it fell off a cliff and dropped a brutal 72.7% in its second weekend.
There are a few obvious issues here; Opus premiered to mixed reviews at Sundance six weeks before it came out, and the marketing failed to really sell its satirical throughline, largely just making it look like a less-good version of Get Out. A meagre international release didn't help either, with the film grossing just $203,196 outside of the U.S.
