10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2025
7. Him
Sports-themed horror Him had one major thing working in its favour: the association of Jordan Peele, who produced the film and whose name was plastered all over its slick marketing.
Not unlike Opus, Him was clearly sold as a Get Out-adjacent satire, with Universal almost certainly hoping that casual audiences would assume that Peele directed it rather than rising filmmaker Justin Tipping.
Despite plenty of pre-release anticipation in the horror community, Him ended up grossing just $28 million, a mere hair higher than its $27 million production budget. The review embargo lifted just a day before release, and critical reception was mostly negative, save for some scattered praise for Marlon Wayans' performance.
For many, it seemed like the marketing just didn't connect. There was an assumption that Him was about traumatic brain injuries in contact sports, but that wasn't really its target at all. Ultimately, a horror film centered around American football is a pretty niche concoction, especially where international markets are concerned, but even so, this was a uniquely poor performance.
