10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2025
5. The Woman in the Yard
Blumhouse has had a wildly mixed bag of a 2025, defined by unexpected flops and a few bread-and-butter hits like Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
One of the studio's more surprising duds this year was The Woman in the Yard, a $12 million psychological horror film with an easy-to-market premise, made by a director with a string of genre hits to his name, Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop, The Shallows). Even so, it grossed just $23.3 million globally, falling a tad shy of the 2x multiplier needed to fully cover its costs.
Mixed-to-negative reviews didn't help, nor a not-great "C-" CinemaScore, and it probably further hurt the movie that cinema is arguably wildly oversaturated with horror movies about grief at the moment. This was less the "fun" B-movie folk might expect from the title and trailers, and instead a more earnest, serious-minded horror that many likely decided to catch on streaming instead - if at all.
