10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2025
4. Keeper
Osgood Perkins enjoyed impressive back-to-back hits with last year's Longlegs and The Monkey earlier this year, and while his new film Keeper didn't have as nearly a multiplex-friendly premise, it still seemed likely to offer a decent return on its tiny $6 million budget.
Despite a tantalising, vibes-heavy marketing campaign, Keeper grossed just $2.5 million in its U.S. opening weekend, and to date has made only $5 million worldwide, not even covering its cost of production.
The review embargo lifted a day before release - sensing a pattern here? - and was extremely mixed. It also landed a brutal "D+" CinemaScore from audiences, adding up to a near-total rejection from all but the most committed fans of Perkins' work.
It's entirely possible that Keeper's vague marketing didn't really land for mainstream audiences either, but at least the low budget will keep Neon's losses relatively small. If the cost of keeping Perkins happy is helping him make a "one for me" film with limited commercial appeal, then it's probably worth it to Neon.
