10 Horror Sequels EVERYONE Wants To See
2. Trick 'r Treat 2

Trick 'r Treat is one of the most beloved horror anthologies of all time, and though it was perhaps ill-advisedly dumped straight-to-DVD in 2009, it's lived on as a firm cult favourite, becoming a seasonal mainstay with horror fans every Halloween.
Writer-director Michael Dougherty didn't waste much time discussing his desire to make a sequel, but little movement was made in the years that followed, quite possibly due to the first film's relatively high $12 million budget and lack of a theatrical release.
By 2022, Dougherty revealed that Trick 'r Treat 2 was in active development at Legendary Pictures, but hadn't received a formal greenlight yet.
Though drafts of the script had been completed by the end of 2023, Dougherty stressed that budgeting and scheduling issues still needed to be resolved before it could be shot.
This one feels like a coin flip, honestly - a sequel to a 16-year-old cult horror anthology that didn't even get a cinema release probably isn't the easiest sell to studios, but at the same time, Trick 'r Treat's cultural staying power over such a long period has to count for something.
