10 Horror Victims That Did Everything Right But Died Anyway

4. Kaylie Russell - Oculus

Oculus Death
Warner Bros.

Oculus revolves around a young woman, Kaylie, whose parents were killed by a mystical mirror when she was a child. Though her brother, Tim, was convicted of murder, Kaylie has spent a decade trying to prove the antique was responsible. When Tim returns home, he's skeptical of Kaylie's claims, which urges her to perform an elaborate experiment.

Despite losing her parents at a young age, Kaylie doesn't let her emotions get the better of her. Instead, she remains hyper-focused, researching history, documents, and previous victims of the mirror.

It'd be satisfying to smash the mirror outright, but Kaylie knows it won't prove her brother's innocence. Instead, she devises a controlled set-up, involving cameras and timers that'll demonstrate the mirror's demonic power. Kaylie even prepares a failsafe, so the mirror will be shattered by a swinging anchor if it attempts to kill anybody.

As thorough as Kaylie's plan is, it isn't enough. When Tim realises the mirror is in fact evil, he releases the anchor to destroy it. Unfortunately, the mirror makes him hallucinate so he doesn't see Kaylie is in front of it until it's too late.

Although Kaylie's determination is commendable, it led to her death and her brother being falsely imprisoned yet again.
