8. Martin - Killing Of A Sacred Deer
In The Killing of a Sacred Deer, 16-year-old Martin (Barry Keoghan) seemingly befriends Dr. Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell); the surgeon who failed to save Martin's father. Despite being troubled, Steven embraces Martin's friendship at first, hoping it will help the boy get some closure. But after Martin starts displaying a more sinister side, Steven begins to distance himself from him.
When Steven's son, Bob, is left inexplicably paralysed, the doctor confronts Martin, believing he is somehow responsible. Sure enough, Martin explains how he has placed a curse on the Murphys as punishment for Steven letting his dad die. Martin warns Steven that he must kill a loved one to "balance things".
Within days, the curse spreads to Steven's wife and daughter, causing them to stop eating, lose the use of their legs, and bleed from their eyes. Believing he must make a sacrifice to save the rest of his family, Steven shoots his son dead.
Sure enough, the family returns to normal, indicating the curse has been lifted. When Martin runs into the Murphys shortly after, he seems satisfied, knowing he's successfully destroyed Steven's life.
