10 Most Disappointing Villains From Recent Horror Movies
1. Pooh Bear & Piglet - Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood And Honey
It was all up for grabs when the cute characters from A.A. Milne's beloved books became public domain in the United States - and boy, did filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield run with it in the most alternative way possible in 2023.
There was a lot going for it ahead of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey's release, and seeing images of Pooh and Piglet depicted as horror characters generated massive viral momentum for the low-budget slasher. The premise of Christopher Robin leaving his woodland friends to go to college, resulting in Pooh Bear et al. becoming feral creatures (R.I.P. Eeyore), set it up for something frighteningly fun. Unfortunately, no amount of honey could salve, or indeed salvage, this 3% Rotten Tomatoes-rated mess.
What we're served up with is basically two burly blokes in painfully obvious Temu-priced Pooh Bear (Craig David Dowsett) and Piglet (Chris Cordell) latex masks, causing macabre mayhem. The mute serial killer is a highly effective horror trope, as we've seen with Art the Clown, but their expressionless faces make the acting as wooden as the trees in Hundred Acre Wood. So, the animation scene where Pooh and Piglet burn Christopher's wife's body was a welcome, albeit too brief, changeup.
Remove the masks, and you're left with any one of many eye-rollingly awful slashers found on Tubi. Furthermore, what the blood-thirsty anthropomorphics really needed was a decent dose of dark humour to balance their monotonous murder spree.
Naturally, the only way was up from such an abominable low, with the subsequent 2024 sequel and other films in the gloriously named Twisted Childhood Universe fairing markedly better thanks to bigger budgets and better effects, with no latex masks in sight! But hey, we all remember our firsts, however forgettable.
