10 Recent Horror Movie Cameos Nobody Saw Coming
The recent horror cameos that caught us all off-guard.
Who among us doesn't love a surprise cameo in a movie? If nothing else, it lets us point at the screen, Leo DiCaprio-style, when a famous face shows up totally out of nowhere. And few genres love cameos more than horror, because the entire subculture of horror itself is basically one big community of actors playing together and, on occasion, winking at the audience.
Not all cameos are great, of course, and sometimes they can be distracting to the point that they actively detract from the film, yet for better or worse, basically nobody saw the following horror cameos coming.
From surprise actors playing unexpected, legendary genre characters, to divisive posthumous reappearances, cameos from retired performers, and everything else in-between, these cameos caught every single one of us off-guard.
Some of them were played totally straight, while others stopped just short of peeling the fourth wall back. Whatever the execution, though, each certainly got people talking - assuming that they even recognised who the actor was, of course. Thanks to some hair and makeup magic, a few of these performers were largely hidden in plain sight.
10. Matthew Goode - Abigail
Even if you were aware that Abigail was a loose reimagining of the 1936 film Dracula's Daughter - a fact Universal decided to conceal leading up to its release - you probably weren't expecting to see Matthew Goode show up in the last few minutes.
At the end of the movie, vampiric ballerina Abigail (Alisha Weir) is finally collected by her father, an infamous vampire kingpin by the name of Kristof Lazaar. Lazaar, who has been hyped up as a ruthless overlord throughout the film, finally steps out of the shadows, revealing himself to be played by a sepulchral Goode, who makes the very clear implication that he is, in fact, Count Dracula.
Dracula is one of cinema's all-time classic roles and one that's been inhabited by countless iconic actors over the years, yet casting the part for Abigail must've been tricky - to find an actor comfortable playing him in mere cameo form, and where his name isn't even said on screen.
For what little screen time he had, though, Goode absolutely knocked it out of the park.
