10 Scrapped Horror Movie Monsters That Would Have Been Terrifying

9. Rokmutul - Godzilla

With Godzilla as a concept and property stretching back over 70 years, and 60 at the point of Gareth Edwards' 2014 movie, there was obviously a lot of history to draw upon, and a lot of characters that audiences were excited to see.

The likes of Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla have all featured in the MonsterVerse to this point, with other famous MUTOs still to come off the bench, so it's unsurprising that an original monster created for the 2014 film didn't quite make the final cut.

The beast in question is Rokmutul, a creature designed very similarly to an Anguirus, a massive Ankylosaurus whose armour would have given Godzilla a different kind of fight than anything else he has come up against before or since. This would have taken place atop Alcatraz in San Francisco, but unfortunately Rokmutul never made it past the concept stage.

Instead, Rokmutul acted more as a placeholder, ultimately giving way to the first Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism the King of Monsters eventually battled in that MonsterVerse debut. However, all may not be lost, as the franchise is still going strong with Godzilla X Kong: Supernova set to release in 2027, with who knows how many further films and TV series planned, so there is still hope Rokmutul may still appear.
