10 Scrapped Horror Movie Monsters That Would Have Been Terrifying
8. The Arachni-Lobster - The Mist
Less is often more in the world of horror, particularly when it comes to monsters. Often it's scarier to let an audience picture certain creatures themselves, as is definitely the case with something like Bird Box, particularly when you see what the actual design would have been.
The Mist is a strange one, as it did benefit from largely hiding its Lovecraftian horrors within the fog from which the film took its name, but the scrapped design that could have been would have been genuinely terrifying.
No amount of audience imagination could have matched the Arachni-Lobster. Even just the name is enough to send a shiver down the spine, and though it was only seen on screen in silhouette, the concept art offers a closer look at its terrifying true form. It's almost Xenomorphic.
The narrative, in all honesty, renders the actual look of the beasts rather redundant. The Mist was a monster film that wasn't really about the monsters; it was about the human reaction to them, and of course the heartbreaking final moments. Having said that, a peek of this walking nightmare certainly wouldn't have hurt proceedings.
