10 Twisted Horror Movies That Go Way Too Far
3. Megan Is Missing
There are plenty of movies, several on this list, that use the excuse of portraying a certain message in order to put onto film some truly harrowing scenes. Even if you give them the benefit of the doubt and say the right intention was there, it's still been done in the worst way possible at times.
With Megan is Missing, it's difficult to even give the benefit of the doubt. Behind a flimsy excuse of portraying the dangers of meeting strangers online, the film was disgusting from the beginning through to the shocking and unnecessarily bleak ending.
Of course, it is an important message, but this was not the way to do it. This was nothing more than gratuitous torture porn at its absolute lowest level, with a sickening ending that did nothing to further any message. Instead, it's just upsetting for the sake of it.
The story revolved around Amy (Amber Perkins), who went looking for her friend Megan (Rachel Quinn) after she went missing following a meet-up with someone she met online. When Amy did find the guilty man, she herself was ultimately stashed inside a barrel with the decaying corpse of her friend and buried alive in the woods. It's not clever, and it's not thought-provoking; it is simply deranged and is not worth watching.
